Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the rose 1.00%, while the index gained 0.95%.
The best performers of the session on the were Wipro Ltd (NS:), which rose 5.70% or 20.75 points to trade at 384.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Cipla Ltd. (NS:) added 3.76% or 29.90 points to end at 824.90 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:) was up 3.40% or 20.45 points to 621.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:), which fell 0.95% or 29.10 points to trade at 3020.00 at the close. Titan Company Ltd (NS:) declined 0.52% or 7.80 points to end at 1491.00 and NTPC Ltd (NS:) was down 0.15% or 0.15 points to 98.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:) which rose 2.75% to 2373.00, Infosys Ltd (BO:) which was up 2.59% to settle at 1252.40 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:) which gained 2.31% to close at 711.10.
The worst performers were Titan Company Ltd (BO:) which was down 0.89% to 1489.00 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:) which lost 0.26% to settle at 190.00 and NTPC Ltd (BO:) which was down 0.15% to 98.75 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1462 to 205 and 44 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2214 rose and 622 declined, while 140 ended unchanged.
Shares in Wipro Ltd (NS:) rose to 5-year highs; rising 5.70% or 20.75 to 384.95. Shares in Cipla Ltd. (NS:) rose to all time highs; rising 3.76% or 29.90 to 824.90. Shares in Infosys Ltd (BO:) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 2.59% or 31.65 to 1252.40.
The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.78% to 20.4950.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.08% or 1.55 to $1871.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.21% or 0.10 to hit $47.12 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.24% or 0.12 to trade at $50.20 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.21% to 73.697, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 89.7835.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 90.347.
